You might not think of visiting a church while you are on vacation in London; however St. Matthews Church really is worth a visit. The church sits right by the River Thames and it is a beautiful as well as inspirational place to check out. It’s amazing, but the congregation is made up of individuals of all different ages and backgrounds and nothing matters other than their connection to Jesus Christ.
Modern buildings were constructed in 2000 to take the place of previous buildings that had aged significantly. It is nice to tour the new buildings and see some of the original stained glass that was from the old church. The congregation is full of life and that may be party related to its location in the Fulham area!
If you are in the area and are interested in attending a church service then check out St. Matthews at 10 am on Sundays. There is also an evening service on Sundays that you may attend and this service is generally more reflective than the service in the morning.
St. Matthews is strongly rooted in the community and there are many different activities that take place including youth groups, home groups, men’s groups, mums and tots groups, baby massage, young adult fellowship, a tradecraft stall, homeless night shelter, and even sports activities on occasion as well as day trips.
The church’s website states that the congregation is a combination of many different ages and from all different backgrounds. The tying bind for these individuals is that they believe Jesus Christ has a role in today’s society and that his teachings are still very relevant.
The church first began in 1884 and it has been part of Fulham since then. This is a long lasting church and its future appears to be strong thanks to the committed congregation. St. Matthews welcomes young and old, newcomers and long-time residents, and all races to visit their beautiful church.
The ministry at St. Matthews goes well beyond a Sunday afternoon sermon. This church goes all out to incorporate everyone into their fold and make them feel welcome no matter where they are on their spiritual journey.
